GoFundMe

GoFundMe was one of the first companies that provided support for the Trucker Convoy. On January 14, Tamara Lich launched the fundraising campaign on January 14, stating that the money would go towards fuel, food an lodgings for the eventual blockades.

On January 25, GoFundMe suspended the campaign due to concerns about how the funds would be properly distributed. A limited amount of funds was released when plans were shown that the money would cover the cost of fuel for participants. [1]

On February 4, GoFundMe ended the campaign when they determined the blockage was promoting violence and harassment on the streets of Ottawa. Donors who apply for refunds within the next two weeks would have their money returned, with any money unclaimed would be donated to charities. [2] Some government officials in the USA initiated an investigation into GoFundMe's revocation of the campaign, such as Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton claiming that it is a violation of the state's Deceptive Trade Practices Act.[3] Eventually, GoFundMe decided to automatically refund money rather than redistribute it.[4]

On March 3, GoFundMe stated that most of the donors were Canadian, and did not identify any donors affiliated with terrorist groups or organized crime activities.[5]
